Side by Side by Sondheim
PPAS Black Box - 328 West 48th Street, New York, NY, USA
Mar 28 - 29, 2018
The Theater Arts Classes of 2018 & 2019 have been working so hard over the last few months to put together this concert reading of Side by Side by Sondheim.
Stephen Sondheim’s work has for many decades been held as one of the most celebrated keystones of the American musical theater. His many musicals have gone on to win countless Tony awards, launch many careers, be revived numerous times around the world, and speak to what is at the very core of being human. Aside from the sheer difficulty of his music, the way in which he writes the human experience speaks to the very core of what it means to exist, and is why his pieces are so timeless.
The stories being told in the songs range far from the lived experiences of our cast members, yet their ability to sink into those stories and realities shows the depth of maturity that our young people have. It also demonstrates their ability to truly empathize with folks that are different then themselves, which is an under-practiced skill at this current time in history.
