Matthew Hougland is a teaching artist based in NYC, originally from Indianapolis, IN.
He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from NYU Steinhardt as well as a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Anderson University.
While at NYU, Matthew was an Adjunct Professor of Voice as well as an accompanist. Prior to moving to NYC, Matthew was an award-winning high school choral director where his choirs were consistently placed in the top tier of the Concert and Show Choir competition categories.
Matthew’s performance credits range from musical theatre to sacred music. Favorite roles include: Mary Sunshine in Chicago (Theatre By The Sea, Peregrine Theatre Ensemble – Broadway World Award for Best Actor), Joey in Sister Act, Reverend Crisparkle in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Boss/Policeman in Amour and Uncle Winston in A Catered Affair. Matthew has also participated in workshops and readings with Larry O’Keefe & Nell Benjamin and Jessica Bashline, as well as being a featured soloist at Radio City Music Hall and Yankee Stadium.
