WT McRae (PPAS head of movement department, New Victory Teaching Artist, SFAC Director of Theater) has lived in NYC since 2001 creating theatrical and visual works, and contributing to the field of arts education..
Recently as a director, WT has directed and choreographed Babel (Off Broadway) Guys and Dolls, Beauty and The Beast, Children of Eden, Seussical, and Bye Bye Birdie (Sitka Performing Arts Center), Medea (PPAS). He is an actor, clown, dancer, director, designer, writer, and devised theater collaborator. Recently he’s been seen in Babel(Off Broadway) and Ears Nose and Tail (recipient of New Victory Labworks grant, Jim Henson Foundation Honors).
He has traveled with The Pheonix Woodwind Quintet, The Long Island Philharmonic, and The Bronx Arts Ensemble performing Peter and The Wolf and Babar in schools, libraries, and community centers for 11 years. Working with fellow clown Christina Gelsone he spent 5 years running Fool’s Academy and touring shows in schools that teach curriculum using slapstick and circus. WT has performed with Salmon Spawn Theater, Spellbound Theater, Oberon, Boomerang, and many more.
As an educator, he works with The New Victory Theater, where he has taught, built curriculum, and coordinated/ conducted research. WT is the director of theater for Alaska Arts Southeast, and the Head of the Movement Department for PPAS. Additionally, he is a guest lecturer for NYU, LIU Post, Circle in The Square Theater School, and teaches a Graduate course for UAS in Quality in Arts Education. His research has been presented at The National Guild for Community Arts Education Conference, and the NY Arts in Education Roundtable Conference.
