Sydney Lucas (TA ’17) nominated for 2015 Tony Award

Sydney Lucas (TA ’17) was nominated for a 2015 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her portrayal of ‘Young Alison’ in Fun Home. According to The New York Times:

“Sydney Lucas as Small Alison may pull off the show’s most improbable coup of a performance.”

Sydney Lucas made her Off-Broadway debut in the musical Fun Home at the Public Theater in New York when she was only ten. For her critically acclaimed performance in Fun Home, Sydney received an Obie award–making her the youngest recipient in Obie award history. In addition to winning the 2014 Obie Award, Sydney also received nominations for a Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League Award. Other noteworthy credits include: Verdi’s Macbeth (Metropolitan Opera). Workshops: Amelie, Iowa, Once Around the Moon, Table. Film: She’s Funny That Way, Skeleton Twins, Girl Most Likely, Fool’s Day. TV: How & Why (FX Pilot, series regular), Law & Order: SVU, Royal Pains, Saturday Night Live, 2012 & 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Sesame Street.

This nomination makes Sydney Lucas one of the youngest actors in history to be nominated for theater’s highest honor! Fun Home has been nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
